” "Interior design is the intersection where my creative interests and artistic talents meet."
Given Patrick Porter’s expertise in space planning, architectural drafting, custom furnishings, and more, it might come as a surprise to learn that he began his career in accounting. “After spending the first half of my working life in accounting, I found myself ready for a change,” he said. “I was lacking an outlet for my creative and artistic interests.”
He committed to making the change and went back to school for interior design at the Art Institute of Philadelphia—thus beginning a new and rewarding career path. After graduating, Patrick began working as an interior designer for multiple leading design firms in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where he gained immediate and valuable experience. “In my first position as a designer, I had the good fortune of working on a multi-million dollar new construction project, which truly taught me the business of design,” he said. “I was solely responsible for all custom furnishings and built-ins, lighting, kitchen and bath selections, and window, wall, and floor coverings. It was a big job for a beginning designer, but one I remember with fondness and pride.”
While Patrick loves the entire design process and the work that goes into making projects come to life, what he loves most about his job are his clients. He believes that in order to achieve the best results, it’s important get to know his clients and what their hopes and dreams are for their projects. Patrick has extensive experience with architectural drawings and AutoCAD, so he is able to help them visualize what their space could look like from the start.
Aside from design, Patrick also loves exploring his new home of Sarasota and all of the cultural opportunities the area has to offer.
