After being stuck at home for months on end, appreciation for the outdoors has never been higher. This is true even when it comes to entertaining. The hottest cocktail lounge or music bar can no longer compete with an al fresco brunch or outdoor soirée at home. There’s something special about the experience of gathering friends together around the table or fire pit that just can’t be replicated.
As more and more people embrace outdoor living, it presents a chance to reimagine our personal outdoor living spaces and reinvent them for summer entertaining. At Clive Daniel Home, our talented designers are accustomed to designing outdoor oases that are just as chic as their interior counterparts and know how to create spaces that are perfect for outdoor entertaining.
Multipurpose Spaces
In this recent project, designers Charlie Hansen and Rebekah Errett-Pikosky created an indoor-outdoor kitchen with comfortable seating that opens up to an incredible, artful space for the owners to use throughout the seasons. Below the pool, a modern pergola stretches out over a stone fire pit and additional seating. The entire design presents a beautiful but functional and versatile setting for guests to gather.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Transitions
In Quail Creek, designers Sherie Weidner and Laura Giles created an open-air space that acts as an extension of the interior’s chic black and white color palette. It includes a summer kitchen, open bar with generous seating, and a fireplace. The bar has a contemporary design with a “floating” counter continuation suspended by cypress cladded pillars and topped with a striking black slate countertop in rugged Dekton material. In the seating area on the opposite side, an impressive 120” exterior linear fireplace features a sleek cypress waterfall edge, while above, an 80” television hangs against a white stained cypress backdrop. Simple furnishings enhance the architectural details and create a comfortable contemporary vibe.
Outdoor Technology
Designer Jessica Lozano seamlessly integrated technology into this outdoor living space, creating a chic area for visitors to sit and watch a movie or lounge around the fireplace. With calming neutrals and pops of bright blue, the design is clean and sophisticated, with subtle nods to retro glam.
Another key aspect of outdoor entertaining spaces, as shown in all of the above projects is lighting. Whether installing hurricane lanterns along the pool or spotlights to highlight architectural or landscaping features, upgraded lighting can highly elevate the feel of your outdoor space.
