BEFORE & AFTER: AN UPSCALE, COASTAL BACHELOR PAD IN DELRAY BEACH
When Ilana Aronowitz first visited her client’s new home in Delray Beach, she knew it would need to be gutted. The 1,450 square foot space was small, dark, and dated, having not been renovated since the 1970s. After assessing its condition, Ilana took the home down to the studs and upgraded each room from top to bottom.
“I had a vision of creating a more spacious living area and enhancing the existing angles with simple architectural details,” she said.
First, Ilana opened up the space between the living room and the sunroom, creating a clear line of sight from the front door to the gorgeous gulf club views outside. She also added larger windows to increase the natural light and painted the walls a beautiful white to make the rooms feel brighter and larger. From there, she was able to go in and add architectural details—such as the wall paneling, ceiling beams, and custom built-in in the living room.
For the design, Ilana wanted to create “an upscale, coastal bachelor pad” for her client. He loves orange and blue, so she incorporated these colors throughout. In the living room, upscale accents like a decorative Hermès surfboard blend with rustic, jute accessories for a feel that is luxurious but comfortable.
In the master bedroom, she added paneling behind the bed to take advantage of the ceiling height while keeping the furnishings simple and sophisticated. The master bathroom was also upgraded, as well as reconfigured. Ilana even raised the ceilings added large mirrors in order to better accommodate the owner’s height.
Truly no corner went untouched. Near the kitchen, for instance, was an old wet bar that client was unsure what to do with. In its place, Ilana designed a chic wine closet with sleek porcelain and modern suspension. It fits perfectly in the space and coordinates beautifully with the rest of the design. It just goes to show that big design is possible even in small spaces.
The entire home is warm, inspired, and sophisticated—exactly as the client wanted. To view more Clive Daniel Home projects, view our Portfolio.
